My Most Embarrassing Moment

Hello Everyone,

Oh boy!  Have you ever had a time when you really messed up?  How about a time when you messed up in public?  Yesterday’s gym class was one of those times!  We were playing soccer (not one of my best sports, but I like to run) and I got the ball.  I turned and starting running down the field with the ball bouncing off my feet.  It was my moment of glory!  I heard the screams of my teammates as I raced toward the goal.  No one could get near me.  I was flying down the field with the wind blowing, the team screaming and the ball rolling.  It couldn’t get any better—but then, it did get better!

I zeroed in on the goal, planted my left foot, aimed, and kicked that ball.  I scored!  The team roared, everyone jumped up and down and I basked in glory.  But wait…where were the back slaps?  The high fives?  The cheers?  It became very clear that I was standing alone and everyone else was laughing.  I glanced at the gym teacher, whose mouth was hanging wide open.  You guessed it—I had taken the ball the wrong way and made a goal for the other team!

So, those screams I heard were screams from my own teammates telling me to turn around.  The reason no one tried to stop the ball was because I was scoring a goal for the other team.  It’s a really good thing that I know how to laugh at myself because there was nothing to do but laugh like everyone else.  I guess you have to do that sometimes, right?

At least I’m in good company.  When I told Krumbs about my most embarrassing moment, he immediately brought me to the Café.  He pulled up “Celebrity Screw Ups” and “Embarrassing Moments” and I realized that everybody, even celebrities, mess up sometimes.  Have you ever messed up in public?  Share it at the Café…I’d love to read about other people's funny mess ups!

Talk to you soon!

Horrible, Horrible Hiccups

Hello Everyone,

Krumbs and I didn’t make our marshmallow shooters!  We couldn’t get to the store to buy PVC pipe and marshmallows—no PVC pipes and no marshmallows meant no marshmallow shooters.  We were pretty bummed until the warmer weather pulled us outside.  After some basketball (and chipmunk chasing) we were feeling much better!  We grabbed some seltzer water and Krumbs came down with a horrible case of hiccups.

Have you ever had hiccups?  Krumbs hiccuped for a half hour!  We tried drinking water and having him hold his breath, but neither worked.  Finally, I hid behind the house and jumped out at him and even scaring him didn’t work.  Ugh!  After a really long time the hiccups disappeared but it was a really long half hour.

Krumbs and I visited the Café and found a great article on hiccups.  Did you know someone had hiccups for 68 years!?!  Krumbs didn’t think he would make it through a half hour of hiccups and there was a man who had them for 68 years!  We also found out a teaspoon of sugar can stop hiccups—I bet Krumbs would have loved to try that antidote...wouldn't you?  You can learn more about hiccups by clicking here.

Talk to you soon, friends.

Cookie's Cooking And Creating!

Hi Everyone!

I cooked this weekend and Krumbs noshed on my fabulous homemade dog biscuits.  He loves me more than ever after two rainy days spent chowing down on homemade treats.  I made myself the amazing chocolate chip peanut butter burritos too.  The recipes were so quick, easy and fun that I had to add a picture of us enjoying all the ymmy goodness!  You can check out both recipes at the Café.  Do you think you’ll try one?

Ummm…now Krumbs and I need to get outside soon because we’re so full, we feel like we can’t move.  I visited the Cafe, looking for ideas to get us moving and I found Logan’s directions for making a “marshmallow shooter".  I remember getting pinged with marshmallows in the Café a while ago.  There was a lot of crazy dodging and running that day, which is just what we need.  Krumbs and I are going to follow Logan’s directions and make marshmallow shooters and then we'll play a game with them.  I’ll shoot a marshmallow and so will Krumbs.  Whoever shoots the marshmallow the farthest, gets a point.  Whoever loses has to run after the marshmallows and bring them back to the starting line.  Can’t wait!

Check back with me soon to find out about our magnificent marshmallow shooters!

Before They Were Famous

Hello Everyone,

Last night Krumbs and I watched the “American Idol” results show.   We like watching this show because we have the chance to know all about the singers before one of them becomes a big star.  It reminds me a little bit of the “Before They Were Famous” section of the Café.  Krumbs and I like to read about different stars and what they did when they were younger.  My fave is the story about Kelly Clarkson.  I LOVE Kelly Clarkson and it’s so cool to find out who inspired her and how “regular” she was before she became a star!  What would you like to know about your favorite star?

Krumbs and I have a quiet weekend planned.  I think it’s supposed to rain so softball practice will probably be cancelled. L  The weather will probably mean we’re stuck in the house.  What to do?!?  I think I’ll try some recipes from the Café.  Maybe I’ll make Krumbs some Dog Biscuits and I’ll make myself some Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Burritos-mmm, mmm, mmm!

Have a great weekend, no matter what you do, and I’ll check back on Monday!

Happy Jumping!

Hello Everyone,

Krumbs and I are pretty psyched—the Café has a new opinion poll.  You can vote for the sporting event you’re most excited to watch during the Summer Olympics.  Hmmm…beach volleyball?  Wrestling?  Swimming?  Track and Field?  I’m still trying to decide my favorite.  Krumbs thinks chipmunk chasing should be an Olympic event, but I’m not so sure that would work.  Maybe someday they’ll have a “Dog Olympics” and Krumbs can compete in chipmunk chasing!

While we’re talking about Olympic sporting events…did you know Double Dutch is an official event at the Amateur Athletic Union’s Junior Olympics?  By Double Dutch, I mean Double Dutch Jump Roping!  We were on the Café looking for more information about the Olympics and we found an article on Double Dutch.  New York City High Schools have turned this chanting, jump roping, fancy foot working activity into a citywide team competition and the Amateur Athletic Union has made Double Dutch one of their Junior Olympic events.  Who knew?  (You will…click here for history and facts about this crazy-fun, super challenging, partner jumping game.)  Would you try Double Dutch or have you already?

Happy Jumping!

Spring Has Sprung

Happy Spring Everyone!

Yesterday was the first day of spring! Krumbs and I took a hike through the woods with some friends.  We were searching for signs of spring.  We found tiny green sprouts of crocus, buds on the lilac bushes and squirrels and chipmunks racing everywhere.  It was also warm enough to hike around without a jacket, which made me so happy.  Spring is my favorite season.  It is not too hot (I really don’t like to sweat too much) and not too cold (big, bulky coats-ugh)!  Do you have a favorite season?

Krumbs couldn’t decide on one favorite season, but he sure has fun chasing chipmunks and squirrels in the springtime. He loves to run and yesterday his furry friends kept him busy for hours. Once he tired out a bit, we visited the Café and found an article about chipmunks. We found out chipmunks don’t hibernate for the winter. They “nap” for days and even weeks at a time, but they wake up to eat between “naps”.  Chipmunks spend the long, cold winter eating and sleeping.  Hmmm...sounds cozy but I think I might get bored after a while, don't you?

Check back with me soon...

Cool Cafe Give-Away!

Hello Everyone,
Krumbs and I visited the Café today and they're having another cool give away.  "Klub Krumbs" members can sign up for the chance to win a ton of great stuff from “Ohiya-the art of making friends”.  The company makes the funniest (and cutest) tees, posters and key chains with zombie animal characters—it's such awesome stuff!  I have to have the  “Smooch Rocks, Rock and Rawr” tee shirt.  Don’t forget to sign up for "Klub Krumbs" and register for your chance to win an “Ohiya” prize.

Since we're talking about friends anyway, here's a big pet peeve of mine…don’t you hate it when you let everyone join in your stuff at recess, but when the same people start something new they won’t let you join?  Arrrgggghhh!  That happened to me yesterday and I just wanted to curl up in the corner.  I'm hoping today will be better.  Why do people who say they’re your friends, do that to you?  Boy, am I glad it’s Friday!

Have a great weekend, everyone……

I'm Finally Waking Up

Hello Everyone,

I’m finally waking up!   Krumbs and I have had really warm weather here.  It makes us want to be out, out, outside all the time.  Yesterday we bounced on the pogo stick (well, I bounced and Krumbs jumped in circles around me) and I didn’t fall all the way off even one time.  Okay, one time I came really close to falling off right on top of Krumbs.  Good thing I caught myself or Krumbs would’ve been a Krumbs pancake!  What's your favorite thing to do when the sun is shining and the sky is blue?

We're keeping busy inside too.  Krumbs and I have discovered cooking.  We were checking out "What's Cooking" in the Café and found a fabulous recipe for Macaroni and Cheese.  I checked with my mom and she said Krumbs and I could try it!  We made Mac and Cheese for our whole family last night and let me tell you—it was easy to make and sooooo good.  We made a salad too.  Have you ever cooked for your family?  If you like macaroni and cheese, ask your parents if you can try making the recipe on the Café.  I bet they’ll be happy you offered to cook!

Talk to you soon!

Springing Ahead Left Me Falling Behind

Hi Everyone,

Krumbs and I are so sleepy!  This weekend was Daylight Savings Time so the clocks had to "spring" ahead one hour. "Springing ahead" means that before you go to sleep on Saturday night you move your clocks forward an hour so that when you wake up on Sunday morning the time is one hour later.  That worked for everyone except us—we forgot to change our clock on Saturday night! When we woke up, our clock said 8:00AM but it was really 9:00AM.  When we came down for breakfast and found out the real time, it was a crazy, mad dash to softball practice.  We made it with two minutes to spare, but the whole day felt wrong after that.  Did anyone else have a hard time with the time change?

We spent some time at the Café in “Klub Krumbs” this weekend.  Are you a member?  I took one of the  quizzes and found out I have a great attitude about money.  I spend money and save money in about the same amounts, so I have it when I need it.  I love the “Klub Krumb” quizzes.  Sign up for "Klub Krumbs" and you can have even more fun in the Café.  "Klub Krumbs" members can take quizzes, join contests, and leave opinions on a whole lot of things...check it out!

Talk to you soon.

"The Mystery Tapper"...Found!

Hello Everyone,

You’re not going to believe this!  Krumbs and I searched and searched outside yesterday, but we didn’t find a pileated woodpecker.  We looked and we listened and then we looked and listened some more.  Guess what we found?  It was not a bird, not an animal, not even the wind.  The tap, tap, tapping was from drops of water falling down our rain gutters and landing on the metal bottom!  Check out the picture to see the " mystery tapper":

Krumbs was really disappointed, but I told him we can look for woodpeckers when it is a little bit warmer outside.  In the meantime, all that hunting for a mystery animal made me wonder if I might want to be a Professional Wildlife Educator someday.  I found an article about “The Creature Teacher", Robin Wheeler at the Café.  It would be so cool to work with interesting and unusual animals every day.  Some Wildlife Educators even star on their own television shows!  I’m definitely looking into this!

Have a great weekend everyone and I’ll talk to you next week!

A Tap-Tap-Tapping Mystery

Hello Everyone,

I survived my first day of tests and it was really pretty good.  My teacher let us bring mints or gum to chew during the testing-you don’t get to do that every day in school!  My super breakfast stopped my stomach from rumbling and kept my brain focused and thinking.  It was a good day, so I guess I’m ready to do all again.

Krumbs and I spent the afternoon outside and we’re definitely going out again today.  We heard some tap-tap-tapping yesterday, so today Krumbs and I are going to investigate!  Krumbs thinks a Pileated Woodpecker might be searching a tree for insects, but I’m not sure.  He read about the woodpeckers in the Café and now I think he’s obsessed with them!  I’m going back to read the article so I can figure out more about our mysterious tapper.  Do you think Krumbs is right about the woodpecker?  I'm wondering what else could be tapping in the backyard.  Read the article in the Café and let me know what you think.

Talk to you soon!

Brain Food For Breakfast

Hi Everyone,

What a great weekend!  I spent time so much time outside with Krumbs.  We went hiking because the snow melted and I also took The Lightning Thief out of the library.  The book is great…can you imagine finding out that you have special powers?  If I could have any special power, I’d want to be able to fly—awesome!

Today is the first day of our state wide tests.  I was really nervous this weekend, but I read an article in the Café about feeding my brain!  (Check out "Brain Booster Breakfasts" in the Cafe.) I learned that a really great breakfast can keep your brain going...and going...and going.  I’m giving it a try today-- it can't hurt, right?  Today’s breakfast was scrambled egg (protein) on a whole wheat English muffin (whole grains) with mandarin orange slices (fruit).  I am full and definitely ready to go-- wish me luck!!

Check back with me soon!

Test Stress...Maybe It's Time For A Good Book!

Hey Everyone,

I just found out my whole school is taking state tests next week.  They’re supposed to tell how every kid in the state is doing in each subject…math, reading, and writing.  My grade doesn't take the tests in science, so I don’t have to worry about that one yet.  I have to tell you…my stomach feels like  something’s swimming in it every time I think about those tests.  Is it just me…or do tests make you nervous too?

Krumbs and I are going to have to do something really great this weekend to get my mind off the tests.  I’m thinking a good book may help.  We’re heading to the library… I just finished the first Series of Unfortunate Events books.  I found out about them by reading Julia M.’s review on the Café.  (You can read it by clicking here )  It was such a great book!  Now I’m thinking I’ll take out the second book and if that’s not in, I’m going to try The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.  Has anyone read that yet?

Have a great weekend everyone…Talk to you next week!
